PETER HEALS
A LAME BEGGAR

֎ Featuring 29 Paintings, 1 Relief and 3 Windows ֎

A C T S
«Chapter 3»

Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Like em all- the etchings are nice

27 catches my eye as it depicts Peter calling on God’s power to heal the man quite nicely.

Glad you like the etchings, Bob. I always include them, but judging by the lack of comments generally, not many do like them.

I like most forms of art, especially when done by artists as talented as Dore and other etching artists.

Good Morning Dan, and happy new day to all.

So many exciting paintings, etchings and beautiful fenster; hard to choose a favorite!

Such a miracle, which brought attention to the gospel.

Thank You Dan!

We’re all lame beggars who need God’s touch, through whomever He sends.

We’re all lame beggars

...and #9, Rembrandt says exactly that in his composition (look at the top half - it's as if Peter is reaching out to you...)

Nice catch, John.

And, as Peter himself learned in the upper room, once we've been HEALED we still need HEALING and HEALING and HEALING....

LOL! On the subject of all of us being lame beggars:

* my morning reading included 1 Kings 8:46: "there is no one who does not sin"

* just now as I was praying through the list of people for whose salvation I daily pray, I told God that I don't know what is keeping them individually out of his kingdom, but that I could certainly vouch for them: they're all sinners!

“just now as I was praying through the list of people for whose salvation I daily pray”
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Dan, I have a question regarding this topic:

Do you think that sometimes God ‘VERY strongly influences’ the unsaved to repent, and call out for salvation? I mean, so ‘strongly influence’ that they cannot say ‘No’

I’m not asking ‘can’ God, but is this something He sometimes or often does?

Any specific scriptures?

Dan or anyone, what do you think?

Yes and No.

You are raising the old issue of free will vs. election, over which wars have been fought.

In my view, the Bible teaches both. How could both be true simultaneously? In our three space and one time dimensions, they cannot, which is why we cannot understand it, being thus limited. But God exists in at least nine space and two time dimensions, wherein they can. In fact, there are about a dozen Bible verses in which both are taught in the very same verse.

The most obvious example of the situation you cite is Paul, whom God completely overwhelmed near Damascus. It might seem as though Paul had no say in his conversion. But at what point did Paul actually believe? It was after:

* he had spent time with many believers and had seen firsthand their faith under his duress

* his intense encounter with Jesus

* Ananias reported God's instructions to heal him and then the healing itself

Even when it appears God finds it needful to overwhelm, He is still providing evidence upon which to base a rational decision.

He is not willing that any should perish, true, but look at whom He is working with!

Like you, Moses loved cats. So, when God issued His 11 Commandments, the last of which read, "Thou shalt not relate with cats", Moses said, "Get yourself another boy." God relented and deleted the 11th--but He also barred Moses from the Promised Land.

The entire story appears in Hezekiah 5.

Dürer (no. 2) and Masaccio (no. 20) clearly took the time and trouble to depict the lame man's illness realistically, which I find very persuasive.

But the sheer kindliness and friendship in St. Peter's face in Strozzi's depiction (no. 16) just warms my heart.
